Welcome to my Blog!

During the first semester of my Masters degree in Computer Applications (MCA) I developed a curiosity for RDBMS, in particular Oracle database which delved me into reading Oracle books at first and later into career in database administration. After completing my masters in 2004, I was employed in my first job as a DBA with north India’s giant telecom operator Spice Communications. Though I was responsible for managing all the 6-8 Oracle databases of multi-terabyte size (one upto 25TB), tape media library, SAN storage, Sun servers, most of the time I was busy doing performance tuning activities. By that time I was OCP 9i and 10g certified.

After almost 3 years of working, In late 2006, I’d joined Oracle Corporation in Bangalore as Technical Analyst in Capacity Management team of Oracle OnDemand. In the first year with Oracle, I’d learnt database server capacity planning using statistical regression analysis and mathematical queueing theory. During this time, I was most inspired by two books: Optimizing Oracle Performance by Cary Millsap (Chapter-9 on Queueing Theory) and  Forecasting Oracle Performance by Craig Shallahamer.

During my Oracle tenure, I’d worked on many complex Infrastructure capacity planning requests (organic and inorganic growth) and solved numerous performance tuning problems. I won many internal awards, prestigious “Pacesetter” and “Knight on the town” are two of them.

During this time my learning was going into two different directions: Oracle Performance Tuning and IT Capacity Planning. I have passed OCP 11g, OCE RAC, ITIL foundation and ISO 20000 Internal Quality Auditor certifications.

In early 2010, to get more exposure on Capacity Planning, I’ve joined Barclays Bank as an IT Service Capacity Analyst where I am responsible for ITIL aligned Service Capacity Management of Barclays Bank’s critical services.

Though I am working on Oracle databases since 2004, I am still very passionate about learning performance tuning. My main interests include Capacity Planning, Oracle database and application performance optimization, query optimizer, database security, logical and physical database design.

My other great passion is music, movies, sports and books. I listen all sort of good music which ranges from Punjabi, Hindi, Sufi, Ghazals, Rap, Jazz to Pop songs. I am very passionate about movies and watched all top-100 movies listed on IMDB.

I live in Pune, India with my wife Radhika, mother and little angel Nehal. My contact details are given below.
